Warning
This product must be installed by Authorized Fire Department representative or Fire Department-Authorized Contractor only. This is a security product that requires a special fire department keywrench to lock the cap in place. Unauthorized installation may result in improper locking of the cap. An improperly locked cap may be subject to removal by unauthorized personnel.
What is a Knox Locking Standpipe 2.5" Cap?
The Knox Locking Standpipe 1.5" Cap is a secure, locking hose outlet cap designed to protect 2.5" standpipe connections inside buildings. It is part of the Knox FDC Protection Program, a complete system that provides protection for both the intake and discharge sides of water-based fire protection systems. It can only be removed using a Knox Keywrench controlled by the local fire department, preventing unauthorized access while keeping the standpipe connection clean and ready for emergency use.
Where are Knox Locking Standpipe 2.5" Caps typically installed?
Knox Standpipe Locks and FDC Caps protect fire department connections generally found on the exterior of buildings, as well as connections which can be found in stairwells and parking garages. They are most commonly found on Class II and Class III standpipe systems where 2.5" hose connections are provided for use by building occupants or trained personnel.
What is the cap made of and how durable is it?
The cap features stainless steel construction to withstand all weather conditions and is built Knox-Rugged. This heavy-duty design ensures the cap holds up in both indoor and outdoor environments, including damp stairwells, parking garages, and rooftop applications.
How does the Knox Locking Standpipe Cap get locked and unlocked?
The lock is operated with a Knox Keywrench controlled by the fire department. The proprietary Keywrench is distributed by Knox to the local fire department at no charge, ensuring that only authorized fire personnel can quickly remove the cap during an emergency response.
What problems does the Knox Locking Standpipe Cap solve?
The cap addresses several critical issues. When FDCs are left unsecured, they are vulnerable to damage, debris, and vandalism, which can constrict the flow of water to fire protection systems such as fire sprinklers and standpipes. Additionally, the Knox Standpipe Lock device locks the connection to non-approved users, providing protection against water theft and the potential introduction of harmful substances into the water system.
